William John "Jack" Hughes was born in 1881 and is Canadian! This is not an antique but it's getting close.
A best way to identify a W. J. Hughes is the cornflower petals. There will always be 12 fringed petals unless the item was too small to etch the entire flower or he would use the 3 petal or single bud version of the flower. Imperial Glass Company was the most consistent source of glass. Established in 1901 in Ohio, they introduced "candlewick" in 1936 and Hughes items with the distinctive ball edging are very popular with collectors today.
